The North Carolina community is mourning the tragic loss of Lucas Charles Warner, who died following a three-vehicle collision on US 70 near Pine Level on the morning of June 11, 2026.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 8:14 a.m. near Exit 337 in Johnston County. Preliminary findings indicate that a North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) truck had stopped in the westbound lanes with emergency equipment activated while workers removed a deer carcass from the roadway.
Investigators reported that traffic behind the NCDOT vehicle had begun slowing when a beige 2013 Nissan Versa driven by Lucas Warner was struck from behind by a blue 2026 Toyota RAV4. The force of the collision pushed Warner’s vehicle into the rear of the NCDOT truck.
Lucas, 26, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. His sudden passing has left family members, friends, and loved ones devastated as they come to terms with the loss of a young life cut tragically short.
The drivers of the Toyota RAV4 and the NCDOT vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported to UNC Health Johnston for treatment. Following an investigation and consultation with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office, authorities charged the driver of the Toyota RAV4 with failure to reduce speed and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
The collision resulted in the closure of westbound US 70 for several hours while emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene. The roadway was later reopened once the investigation and cleanup efforts were completed.
As news of Lucas Warner’s passing spread, tributes and condolences began pouring in from those who knew him. Family and friends are remembering him as a cherished son, relative, and friend whose life touched many people. Though his life ended far too soon, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The thoughts and prayers of the community remain with Lucas Warner’s family and loved ones during this difficult time as they mourn his tragic loss and celebrate his life.
May he rest in peace.
